Now, Coming up and Later

Where your tasks for the coming days and your backlog live, how to move a task to another day and what the fridge does.

Partly Pro

Your planner has three places. Now is today: the tasks under your capacity bar. Coming up is what's waiting for you over the next few days. Later is your backlog, with tasks that aren't on any day yet.

Opening Coming up and Later

Next to your tasks you'll see two buttons, Coming up and Later, each showing how many tasks are in it. Click one and a panel opens on that tab. On a wide screen it sits beside today's tasks, on a narrower one it opens over them. On a phone the two buttons sit at the bottom, above the tab bar, and the panel slides up from below. The cross closes it again.

Coming up

The panel on the Coming up tab. At the top the day Tomorrow with a capacity bar showing that it fits, and below it two tasks for tomorrow.

At the top are the days you've planned something on. The first is always your next workday, with a capacity bar of its own. That way you can see whether tomorrow is filling up before you add anything else. After that comes every day in the two weeks after your next workday that has a task on it. A task further out shows up here by itself once its day falls within those two weeks. Click a day to see its tasks.

If you're waiting on someone else for a task, it's here too, under Waiting.

Later

The panel on the Later tab. At the top Backlog with the Group and Sort options, below that three tasks and at the bottom the Recurring section with a repeating task.

Later is your backlog. Anything here is on no day and doesn't count towards any day's capacity. At the top you choose how to view the list.

  • Group: None, By label or By deadline.
  • Sort: Your own order, Deadline or Size, smallest first.

That choice only applies on the device where you make it. Dragging tasks into your own order only works with Your own order, and when you group, only within a group.

The calendar with the tick on a card puts the task on today straight away. Recurring tasks have a section of their own, under Recurring. You can't pull those into today from here, because their day comes from the repeat schedule.

Moving a task

An open task has a Move button with two arrows. It lists the places the task can go. A task in the fridge and a recurring task that's already in the backlog don't have that button.

The Move menu open on a task, with the options Today, Another day and Backlog.
  • Today. Only on a task under Coming up.
  • Your next workday. It says Tomorrow when that's tomorrow, otherwise the name of the day. If you've set workdays of its own for the label, it's that label's next day.
  • Another day… You pick a workday from the list yourself.
  • Backlog. The task goes to Later.

On a wide card, these options sometimes sit on the card as separate buttons instead of the menu: the arrow for your next workday, the calendar for another day and the tray for the backlog. A task that's already on a day isn't offered that same day again.

A recurring task can only go to the backlog. The menu then says: This task repeats, so it can only go to the backlog.

On a large screen you can also drag a card. Drag it from Now onto the Coming up button and it goes to your next workday, drag it onto Later and it goes to the backlog.

The fridge

Some tasks you won't get to for a while, but you don't want to throw them away either. Those go in the fridge. They're no longer in your backlog and don't count towards the number next to Later.

On a task in Later, open the Move menu and choose To the fridge. This works for a task with no deadline that doesn't repeat and isn't in a project. If a task is in a project, you'll get the option to park it in that project instead.

The Fridge sits at the bottom of Later, collapsed, with the number of tasks in it. Click it to open it. Defrost puts a task back in your backlog. When the fridge is empty, you won't see it.

If a task is still in your backlog thirty days after you created it, TaskBerry suggests freezing it, above your tasks. Editing it doesn't reset that clock. A task with a deadline or a project, a recurring task and a task you're waiting on or working on never get that suggestion. If you want to keep one, click Review and choose Keep next to that task. You won't be reminded about it again.
